Christmas Party for Sea Vista Group.

videocareThe Sea Vista Wisecare Group, a project of the Kouga Catholic Community's Sea Vista Care Group, last week held their Christmas Lunch, and they enjoyed a slap-up meal, prepared by the St Francis Bay Spar.

This meal was paid for from funds which the members of the Group had themeselves collected over the past number of months. Each member of the Group received a Christmas Hamper, courtesy of the Kouga Catholic Community's Shoebox Project. Three members of the Sea Vista Care Group, Pippa Swart, Christine Meyer and Sylvia Nunan, were on hand to ensure that a good time was had by all, and the whole affair was ably co-ordinated by Jenny Suter, a non-Catholic St Francis Bay resident. Music was provided by Frank Nunan, who also played Santa, and made sure everyone had plenty of apple juice with their lunch!  (Click on the video graphic to watch the short video),

The Wisecare Group is a group of elderly, and some not so elderly, residents of Sea Vista township in St Francis Bay, all of whom have some medical condition, ranging from the severe effects of a stroke, to diabetes, and even blindness. Some of the group are confined to wheelchairs. The Kouga Catholic Community's Sea Vista Care Group is heavily involved with this group, together with a number of non-Catholic residents of St Francis Bay, offering a weekly morning workshop at which their medical conditions are monitored - blood pressure taken, sugar levels monitored, etc - therapeutic exercises are taught and basic nutrition information provided. The group is also taught basic crafting skills, and they have made a number of items for their own use, from shoulder bags to wire-and-wool dusters, as well as ornaments. The group is provided with tea and apprpriate snacks, and volunteers from the t Francis Bay community take turns in preparing a nutitious soup for lunch every week.

This weekly workshop is a highlight in the lives of the Group, who seldom miss a week! The enthusiasm with which they tackle the various projects, is surpassed only by their gratitude the volunteers who work with them. The workshops are held in the Sea Vista Evangelical  Church, and this setting underpins the deep Christian faith exhibited by this underpriveleged and generally handicapped group of people. A notable feature of each week's meeting is a Prayer, Praise and Share Session,
